Troops Arrest Air Force Personnel Found With Firearms in Kogi
Troops of the 12 Brigade, working jointly with operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), have apprehended a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) officer, ACM Anas Muhammed Fakai, for allegedly transporting weapons to Abuja. Fakai, who bears service number 23/42603, was stopped at Kabba Junction in Lokoja at about 10:22 p.
m. on Tuesday while conveying two pump-action rifles and a Browning pistol.The suspect, attached to the 107 Air Maritime Group along Airport Road in Benin, Edo State, reportedly admitted during questioning that he was taking the weapons to Constable Mohammed Auwal Haliru, a police officer serving at the Force Headquarters in Abuja. Haliru is said to be an orderly to a Commissioner of Police at the Force Headquarters.
Fakai also claimed that the firearms were handed over to him by Inspector Paul, a police officer serving in Benin and reportedly attached to the Government House there.
Preliminary checks revealed that Fakai attended Nigeria Police Secondary School in Gusau, Zamfara State, between 2015 and 2019.
According to the Special Situation Report, the suspect and the seized weapons remain in custody while further directives are awaited.
