Where Diplomacy Meets Destiny: Moroccan Envoy Connects Fez Heritage with Super Eagles’ AFCON Journey

Morocco’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Moha OU Ali Tagma, has expressed pleasure over the Super Eagles’ impressive performances in Fez, while wishing the team success in their Round of 16 clash against Mozambique on Monday.
In a message sent to Sports Village Square, the ambassador said he was personally delighted that Nigeria’s national team is playing in Fez — a region closely linked to his own roots.
“They are playing in my region. I am from Azrou and Ifrane. What a delightful coincidence,” he said. “While my diplomatic assignment is in Nigeria, Nigeria is playing football in my home region.”
Fez has increasingly become a familiar and favourable ground for Nigerian teams, who remain unbeaten in the area, located within the central belt of the Atlas Mountain range.
The city continues to feel like a home venue for Nigeria, boasting a remarkable record: no Nigerian team has ever lost a competitive match in Fez.
That tradition dates back to 1994, when Shooting Stars held Moroccan club MAS Fez to a 1–1 draw in the African Cup of Champions. Since then, the Super Eagles have played three matches in the city — winning all of them.
Nigeria’s perfect record in Fez places the Super Eagles among only two of the 24 teams at AFCON 2025 to have won every match played in a single host city — a statistic that adds to the anticipation surrounding Monday’s encounter.
As Fez prepares to stage its final match of the tournament, the Moroccan ambassador’s message reflects a unique blend of diplomacy, heritage, and football pride, while carrying a clear hope: that the Super Eagles will maintain their flawless Fez record with victory over Mozambique and advance confidently into the quarter-finals.
