Yagba Residents Protest Political Imbalance, Demand Mopamuro Produce Next Rep

Residents of Mopamuro in Yagba Federal Constituency, Kogi, on Friday staged a peaceful protest over alleged prolonged political imbalance in the constituency, insisting that Mopamuro should produce the next member of the House of Representatives.

The protesters, led by Dr Ayodele John, popularly known as Delex, marched through major streets in Mopamuro communities with placards bearing inscriptions such as “Equity for Mopamuro Now,” “Justice in Representation,” and “Power Must Rotate.

The demonstration drew participants from different segments of society, including community leaders, student representatives, Okada riders, artisans, market women and youth groups.

Speaking to newsmen on behalf of the protesters, Delex said the protest was aimed at correcting what he described as long-standing injustice in political representation in the constituency.

“Our agitation is not born out of hatred or personal ambition. It is about fairness, justice and political balance. Mopamuro has remained marginalised in the sharing of elective positions for too long. This must change,” he said.

He said the principle of equity demanded that Mopamuro be given the opportunity to produce the next representative in the National Assembly, adding that sustainable development could only thrive where justice prevailed.

Delex called on Gov. Ahmed Ododo of Kogi to support Mopamuro’s quest to produce the next House of Representatives member.

“We are calling on the governor to stand on the side of fairness and justice by supporting Mopamuro. This is not just a political demand; it is a moral call for balance and inclusion,” he said.

He also declared support for Pastor Babagbemi Joseph Adejola, also known as GB IRORUN, describing him as a credible and capable candidate to represent the constituency at the federal level.

“Pastor Adejola has shown capacity, compassion and commitment to grassroots development. He understands the yearnings of our people and possesses the leadership qualities required at this critical time,” he said.

Some of the protesters, who spoke with correspondent, commended Delex for what they described as his courage and steadfast leadership, reaffirming their confidence in his ability to articulate the aspirations of the Mopamuro people.

The demonstrators urged political parties and stakeholders in the constituency to embrace dialogue and consensus in ensuring that Mopamuro produces the next representative.
