Prominent Aba-based cleric, Rev. Chika Ubani, has described Senator Orji Uzor Kalu as a candidate for the entire Abia State ahead of the 2027 general elections, calling on traditional rulers and other political stakeholders across Abia North to openly endorse his return to the Senate.

Speaking during a church service in Aba on Sunday, October 25, the cleric declared his support for the re-election of Governor Alex Otti and Senator Kalu, saying his preference for both leaders was informed by their records of public service rather than party affiliations.

Ubani described Kalu as the face of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, arguing that the former governor’s political influence and achievements had continued to attract public attention to the party.

“Orji Uzor Kalu is a candidate for the entire Abia State in 2027. He is the face of the APC in Abia. Many people are listening to the party today because of him. As for me, I will vote for Governor Alex Otti and Senator Orji Uzor Kalu,” he said.

The cleric urged traditional rulers, community leaders and other prominent personalities across Abia North to publicly adopt Kalu, while calling on other aspirants for the senatorial seat to endorse his candidacy.

He particularly commended Kalu’s longstanding relationship with Christian institutions, describing him as a friend of the Church whose contributions to education cut across denominational boundaries.

According to Ubani, the senator has constructed hostel facilities in Catholic, Methodist, Presbyterian and Anglican educational institutions, including Holy Rosary School, Methodist Trinity College and Hope Waddell. He also cited an infrastructure project at Federal Government College, Ohafia.

“Orji Uzor Kalu is a project for lovers of Christ and education. He has demonstrated his love for the Church through practical investments in our schools. He has built for Catholics, Methodists, Presbyterians and Anglicans. We must appreciate those who support institutions that are shaping the future of our children,” the cleric stated.

Ubani also praised Kalu’s legislative representation since 2019, particularly his interventions in rural road construction, scholarships, youth empowerment and foreign training opportunities.

He observed that the senator’s emphasis on opening up rural communities demonstrated an understanding of the developmental challenges confronting ordinary people.

“When you construct roads in rural communities, you improve access to markets, schools and healthcare. When you facilitate scholarships and foreign training for young people, you are investing in their future. These are important aspects of representation that deserve recognition,” he added.

The cleric maintained that Kalu’s contributions to education, infrastructure and human capital development had given his representation significance beyond Abia North.

Looking beyond 2027, Ubani proposed that Kalu should, after completing his representation of Abia North, seek election to represent Abia South Senatorial District for eight years beginning in 2031.

He described the proposal as an expression of his appreciation for the senator’s record of public service and his belief that Kalu’s experience could remain valuable to other parts of the state.
