75 Kidnap Victims Rescued After NURTW Raises Alarm

A timely alert from transport workers has led to the rescue of 75 people kidnapped by suspected bandits in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The victims, including women and children, were travelling in commercial buses when they were attacked at Folwaya Village on Wednesday, August 19. According to the police spokesman, Mansir Hassan, the Birnin Gwari branch of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) alerted the police after the attack.
Hassan said the suspected kidnappers took the victims into a forest and hid them inside a cave in a mountainous area. Following the report, police operatives from the Birnin Gwari Area Command were deployed to the location.
He said the suspected kidnappers fled upon sighting the approaching police team, leaving the victims behind. All 75 victims were subsequently rescued safely.
The Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, praised the NURTW for providing the timely information and commended the officers involved in the rescue operation.
The commissioner urged residents to promptly report suspicious activities, stressing that timely information can help security agencies prevent attacks and save lives. He also advised residents against taking the law into their own hands.
