The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, has been granted permission to proceed on annual leave by the university’s Governing Council following allegations of sexual harassment made by Engr. Folasade Adebayo, a senior university official.

Sources revealed that the Minister of Education, Dr.

Tunji Alausa, expressed strong displeasure over the initial decision of the Council’s committee, which allegedly dismissed the harassment claims and instead asked Adebayo to apologise to the Vice-Chancellor.

The Minister reportedly called the Council Chairman, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba (SAN), to express his dissatisfaction.

In response, Senator Ndoma-Egba convened an emergency online meeting of the Council on Monday, April 14, 2025, at 2:00 PM, during which the Council resolved to suspend Prof. Fasina.

Fasina, whose tenure ends in August 2025, pleaded to be allowed to proceed on accumulated leave instead of facing outright suspension.

The Council approved this request, granting him six months’ leave, effective immediately.

In the interim, Prof. Samuel Olubunmi Shittu, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) and a Professor of Soil Science, has been appointed Acting Vice-Chancellor for six months.

A statement by Mufutau Ibrahim, Registrar and Secretary to the Council, confirmed the decision, stating that:
