Insecurity: Gov Sule vows to end attacks,orders security deployment across border areas

Following series of attacks in neighbouring Benue and Plateau States, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa state has ordered the deployment of security operatives to border communities in Nasarawa State.

Governor Abdullahi Sule stated this this while Journalists briefing in Lafia on the activities of his administration with an assurance of his government’s commitment to protection of lives and property.

Represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Peter Ahemba, governor Sule explained that deployment of security agencies was to intensify surveillance and ensure adequate and stronger patrol of the border corridor.

Communities in the southern part of Nasarawa, especially Awe, Keana, and Doma, have recently witnessed rising tension due to attacks on villages just across the border in Benue.

As a preventive measure, Governor Sule convened expanded emergency security meetings with traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community representatives from affected areas.

Ahemba reaffirmed the governor and government of governor Sule’s commitment to safeguard Nasarawa with several measures out in place for sustainable of peace in Nasarawa especially now that the farming season fast approaching.

“With the farming season fast approaching, we must show adequate commitment to protection of our border communities so that residents can go about their normal activities without fear,” the commissioner stated.

He therefore, urged those displaced at the wake of attacks to return home, assuring them of their protection, emphasizing the need for community collaboration and vigilance.

“strengthening synergy amongst neighborhood is key to preventing unwarranted and senseless killings, reduce crime and enhancing public safety.

Similarly, the SSA to Governor Abdullahi Sule said over 24,000 candidates in public schools across the 13 Local governments will benefit from free NECO registration for the 2025 /2026 examination exercise in the state.

The governor, who disclosed in a press conference held in Lafia, the state capital, expressed that the gesture was part of his administration’s commitment to uplifting the standard of education and less the financial burden on the less privilege in the state.

Peter Ahemba, said it was as a result of government’s determination to raise the educational bar that Nasarawa State came nine in ranking amongst the 36 states including FCT as well as second position in North Central in terms of performance.

“According to 2024 NECO placement our female candidates came seven position in the country while in north central, our female candidates came second positiond overall”.

The SSA said the Adolescent Child Initiative Charity and Empowerment programme which is a Federal Government intervention, is in partnership with the Nasarawa State Government with support from world bank, aimed at encouraging girl child education in the state.
