Southern Senators Mourn Former President Muhammadu Buhari

The Nigerian Southern Senators’ Forum has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, who died in London on July 13, 2025.
This is contained in a message of condolence, by the chairman of the Forum senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru who acknowledged Buhari as a towering figure in Nigerian history, lauding his integrity, discipline, and lifelong dedication to national service. From his early career as a military officer to his tenure as both military Head of State and later civilian President, Buhari was hailed for his unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s development.

The Forum noted that Buhari’s legacy included a robust anti-corruption campaign, significant strides in infrastructure, efforts to combat insecurity, and policies geared towards agricultural and economic reform. His contributions were also felt in foreign diplomacy, where he sought to reassert Nigeria’s role as a major African voice on the global stage.
Describing him as humble, principled, and deeply patriotic, the Forum emphasized that Buhari’s leadership style, marked by simplicity and personal discipline, left a lasting impression on the nation’s political culture.
The senators extended their heartfelt condolences to Buhari’s family, the people of Katsina State, and all Nigerians mourning his loss, while praying for his eternal rest and encouraging citizens to uphold the values he represented.
