The Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, on Friday calmed rising tensions at the ministry after recent protests by staff, offering forgiveness and promising better welfare for workers.

The reconciliation took place during a town hall meeting with staff in Abuja, where the Minister accepted workers’ apologies and emphasized unity as key to the ministry’s progress.

“I have nothing against anyone, and I believe we can solve our challenges through dialogue and mutual respect,” she said, urging staff to work together as “the conscience of the country,” responsible for protecting women, children, families, and vulnerable groups.

Union Chairperson Mrs. Anne Orjiobele, Comrade Success Alake, and other representatives admitted the protest was misguided and pledged renewed support for the minister. They appealed for continued efforts to improve staff welfare.

In a symbolic gesture of reconciliation, the Minister announced the distribution of a 50kg bag of rice to every staff member present, a move that was greeted with loud cheers and excitement.

During the meeting, workers raised issues related to welfare, housing, training, and inclusion. The Minister assured that such concerns would be addressed within available resources, while clarifying that some administrative responsibilities rest with the Permanent Secretary and Directors.
