As Nigeria marks her 65th Independence Anniversary, the Minister in charge of First Baptist Church, Gwagwalada Abuja, Reverend Deji Oyelami, has called on all religious groups not to relent in praying for a better and prosperous nation.

Delivering his message in Abuja to commemorate the anniversary, Reverend Oyelami emphasized that the task of repositioning Nigeria requires the fervent prayers of the faithful, alongside the commitment and support of all religious leaders.

He noted that the role of religious bodies in nation-building is to promote ethical standards, sincerity, honesty, tolerance, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence, which he described as fundamental values for the growth and stability of the country.

The Baptist Cleric, who attributed Nigeria’s continued corporate existence to divine intervention, also admonished Nigerians—particularly political office holders—to place the unity, peace, and progress of the nation above personal interests.

“My message to all Nigerians, especially political office holders, is that righteousness exalts a nation but sin is a reproach to any people. I want them to always uphold justice, fairness, and compassion. It is my prayer that God will help them not to disappoint both the citizens and God Himself,” Reverend Oyelami stressed.

He further reminded Nigerians that true independence requires submission to constituted authority, stressing that every governing power comes from God.

Expressing concern over the current economic challenges, Reverend Oyelami urged government at all levels to implement measures that would cushion the hardship faced by citizens.

He also appealed to wealthy Nigerians to show greater commitment in supporting the less privileged to promote a more equitable society.

The Cleric encouraged youths to shun actions that undermine national peace and development, urging them instead to be good ambassadors of their families and to engage in ventures that would make them self-reliant.

While wishing all Nigerians a Happy 65th Independence Anniversary, Reverend Oyelami expressed optimism that with continuous prayers and collective support, Nigeria would soon take her rightful place among the comity of nations.
