Men Are Not Serious — Actress Lola Idije Speaks Out on Single Motherhood and Challenges Women Face
Veteran Yoruba actress, Lola Idije, has shared her experience and thoughts on the challenges of raising children as a single mother.
She revealed that being a single parent is one of the hardest responsibilities any woman can bear, especially in a society where genuine support is often lacking.
According to her, many people fail to grasp the full weight of a single mother’s struggles — from paying school fees to providing daily meals.
Lola Idije lamented that friends and relatives frequently make promises but rarely fulfill them when help is truly needed.
She noted that despite carrying such heavy burdens, single mothers continue to find the courage to keep going for the sake of their children.
The actress also condemned the attitude of some men toward women, particularly those in the entertainment industry. She said many men approach actresses without seriousness, often treating relationships like a game or competition to see who can win a woman over.
She further revealed that some men disrespect actresses, assuming they can be bought with money — sometimes as little as ₦500,000 — a belief she described as degrading and deeply insulting.
In her words, women must be cautious with whom they trust, as betrayal often comes from those who seem supportive. She advised women to remain vigilant rather than be deceived by empty promises.
Despite these challenges, Lola Idije praised single mothers for their strength and resilience, noting that their determination to care for their children is a true symbol of sacrifice and courage.
She added that although society often judges women, especially actresses, their persistence and faith continue to drive them forward.
Lola Idije concluded by encouraging women never to lose hope, reminding them that with determination and belief in themselves, they can overcome any difficulty and successfully raise their children.
