Nigeria’s fighter jets, the Super Tucanos, are in excellent condition and playing a crucial role in the ongoing fight against terrorism, particularly in the Northeast and Northwest regions of the country.

This assurance was given on Wednesday by the newly appointed Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Kennedy Aneke, during his screening before the Senate.

Responding to questions from lawmakers regarding rumours that the Super Tucano jets were no longer operational, Aneke dismissed the claims, assuring the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, that Nigerian Air Force pilots are actively and effectively engaging criminal elements with sustained intensity.

Aneke appeared alongside the newly appointed Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede; Chief of Army Staff, Major General Waidi Shaibu; and Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Idi Abbas, who were all screened by the Senate on Wednesday.

The session also included a closed-door meeting between the senators and the military nominees, whose names were forwarded to the Senate for confirmation by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday.
