LASUCO: FG Applauds Lafiagi Emirate, Urges Continued Community Support

The Minister of State for Industry, Senator John Owan Enoh, has praised the 14th Emir of Lafiagi, HRH Alhaji Mohammed Kudu Kawu, and the entire Lafiagi community for fostering peace and supporting the development of the Lafiagi Sugar Company (LASUCO).
During a courtesy visit to the Emir’s palace, Senator Enoh highlighted that, among sugar projects nationwide, LASUCO has experienced the least community-related challenges.

He noted that the people of Lafiagi recognize the significant benefits of hosting such a major industrial project.
Following the palace visit, the Minister inspected the extensive BUA-owned sugar estate in Lafiagi, marking the start of a series of visits to sugar plantations across Nigeria as the federal government intensifies efforts to boost the sector.
Senator Enoh emphasized the importance of traditional institutions and host communities in sustaining large-scale agro-industrial investments. He commended the Emir and local residents for their unwavering support of the sugar project.
“When planning this visit, I was asked about the order of my engagements. As a politician, my first stop during any campaign is always the traditional institution. It was even more important here because this farm belongs to the community. It was essential to come and show that I am present and engaged with your community,” the Minister stated.
He added, “We have multiple sugar plantations across the country, but LASUCO consistently receives positive feedback regarding community support. Every assistance you provide directly benefits your own community because if the plantation thrives, the first beneficiaries are the people of Lafiagi.
“After spending a year discussing sugar development, holding meetings with the NSDC Executive Secretary and management of various sugar companies, it was necessary to step out of Abuja, visit the farm, and see things firsthand. My hope is that this visit will lead to tangible milestones,” Senator Enoh concluded.
