Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has described the death of Senator Godiya Akwashiki as a great loss to Nigeria, noting that the country has lost one of its brightest minds and a committed legislator.
In a condolence message, Governor Sule said the late lawmaker left behind a legacy of honour, leadership and selfless service to humanity.

Senator Akwashiki reportedly died in an Indian hospital after a protracted illness.
The late senator represented Nasarawa North Senatorial District in the upper chamber of the National Assembly.
According to the governor, although he was aware that the lawmaker had been ill, he was deeply shocked by the news of his passing.
Governor Sule described Senator Akwashiki as a grassroots politician who had a deep concern for the progress and development of his constituency.
“It is with deep sadness and a profound sense of loss that I received the news of the passing of the distinguished Senator Godiya Akwashiki (Matawallen Eggon). Death has again robbed us of an illustrious son.
“Senator Akwashiki was an accomplished public servant, a courageous legislator and a devoted son of Eggon land. His humility, commitment and service to his people were remarkable. His political journey demonstrated a deep connection with the common man.
“The death of this distinguished senator is painful not only to his family, the Eggon nation and the people of Nasarawa North, but also to the entire state and the Nigerian legislature.
“We shall continue to cherish his legacy of honour, leadership and steadfast commitment to the progress of our dear state.
“On behalf of the government and people of Nasarawa State, I extend my heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, His Royal Highness the Aren Eggon, the Eggon Traditional Council, the National Assembly and all those who mourn this great son of Nasarawa.
“May Almighty God grant his soul eternal rest and give us all the strength to bear this painful loss,” the governor said.
