Police Raid Suspected Slaughter Homes in Benue, Arrest 41 Suspects
Police operatives in Benue State have arrested 41 persons over their alleged involvement in suspected slaughter homes operating in Makurdi, the state capital.
Confirming the development on Tuesday in Makurdi, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Benue State Command, DSP Udeme Edet, said the arrests followed growing concerns over alleged slaughter homes reportedly located on Awe Street, Wurukum area of the city.
According to the police spokesperson, the suspected locations had been trending on social media for some time, prompting the command to take action.
She noted that public attention was heightened by the viral testimony of an unidentified individual who claimed he was abducted on December 25 while returning from a church programme near the International Market area of Makurdi.
The individual alleged that he boarded a motorcycle around 8:30 p.m. on that day, but was instead taken to Awe Street by the rider.
He further claimed that, in what appeared to him as a hypnotic experience, he was pushed into a house where he encountered about 10 young girls.
“I followed them into a house. The place was dreadful, and I sensed some form of power or demonic presence operating there. When I became hesitant to enter, one of the boys pushed me inside,” he narrated.
He added that inside the building, he was taken into a room where several young girls were present.
“One of them was stark naked and crying. I asked what was happening and how they got there. I approached the girl who was naked and asked why she was in that condition. She said she was brought there around 5:30 a.m. while on her way to Ilorin, Kwara State. She said she needed to get to the park before 6:00 a.m.”
According to the narration, the girl explained that she had boarded a motorcycle, and along the way, the rider pleaded with her to allow him pick up a parcel for waybill delivery. She agreed, but allegedly found herself at the location instead.
“She said she even offered them ₦1 million to spare her life, but they refused,” the unidentified witness claimed.
In another social media post, an unidentified individual alleged that his daughter was almost lured to the same street by an okada rider but managed to escape after giving an excuse to alight from the motorcycle.
Reacting to the allegations, DSP Edet stated that the police command was aware of the reports circulating online and had already taken action.
“I am aware of the allegations, and the matter has been forwarded for action,” she said.
She disclosed that a coordinated raid of identified black spots was carried out at Awe Street in Wurukum as well as Wadata area of Makurdi, leading to the arrest of 41 suspects who are currently undergoing screening.
