HOR Dismisses Minority Caucus Claims on Ad Hoc Committee Over New Tax Law

The House of Representatives, HOR, has dismissed claims that its Minority Caucus constituted an ad hoc committee to investigate the newly enacted tax law, stating that such an action has no legal standing under parliamentary rules.
In a statement issued in Abuja by the House Spokesperson, Mr.

Akintunde Rotimi, the House clarified that parliamentary rules empower only lawmakers sitting in plenary or the Speaker of the House to constitute an ad hoc committee.
The statement explained that any report produced by a caucus-led body cannot be presented on the floor of the House or form part of the official legislative record.
According to the House, the matter is already being addressed through established parliamentary procedures, with a bipartisan ad hoc committee set up in December last year to examine alleged discrepancies in the tax law and report its findings to the House at plenary.
It further disclosed that the National Assembly has published the official gazette of the tax law, describing any other document in circulation as unofficial, and warned against any parallel caucus-led actions.
