By Ekuson Nw’Ogbunka Abuja
The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening institutional reforms, improving service delivery, and enhancing internal security administration through accountability and performance-driven leadership across all agencies under the Ministry.
Speaking at the 2026 Management Retreat of the Ministry of Interior and its agencies, Tunji-Ojo commended the leadership and staff for their dedication to reform initiatives that have repositioned the sector in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Minister highlighted the Ministry’s strategic role in national governance, stressing that its responsibilities span identity management, border administration, correctional services, internal security, and citizenship services that directly affect the lives of citizens.
Tunji-Ojo emphasized that the Ministry must continue to raise its performance standards, noting that previous achievements should serve as motivation rather than a final destination. “Yesterday belongs to history. What truly defines our future is what we do today,” he said.
Permanent Secretary Dr. Magdalene Ajani described the retreat as an important platform for institutional reflection, performance evaluation, and strategic planning aimed at strengthening accountability across the Ministry and its agencies.
Ajani stressed that accountability is central to the Ministry’s operations, noting that the activities of its agencies impact millions of Nigerians daily. She added that the Ministry must ensure that its policies, programmes, and reforms produce measurable improvements in service delivery.
The retreat featured discussions on strengthening institutional capacity, modernising operational systems, enhancing transparency, and improving inter-agency collaboration. The sessions also focused on data-driven performance management and digital transformation to boost efficiency and reduce operational inefficiencies.
