Adebayo Calls For Greater Participation In Nigeria’s Democracy
The Presidential Candidate of the Social Democratic Party in the 2023 general elections, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has called for policies that will strengthen citizens’ participation in Nigeria’s democratic process.
Adebayo made the call during an Iftar (breaking of fast) gathering in Abuja organised by Lilian Adebayo.
Adebayo said the spiritual lessons of Ramadan, including humility, justice and accountability, should guide the conduct of political leaders.
He noted that Nigeria’s religious and cultural diversity remains one of the country’s greatest strengths.
According to him, political leaders and institutions must work to encourage Nigerians to participate actively in elections.
Adebayo said greater voter participation is necessary to strengthen democratic legitimacy and public confidence in governance.
Also speaking at the event, the National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, Sadiq Umar Gombe, stressed the importance of unity and constructive engagement in Nigeria’s political environment.
Professor Gombe said gatherings during Ramadan provide an opportunity for reflection and dialogue among political stakeholders.
He also commended the media for its role in promoting accountability and informing citizens about national issues.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, called for reforms that would encourage broader participation in Nigeria’s electoral process.
Dantalle expressed concern over certain electoral provisions which he said could limit citizens’ participation in politics.
He also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure strict compliance with electoral rules.
The event brought together political leaders, party officials, civil society representatives and members of the media for reflection during the holy month of Ramadan.
The event ended with prayers for peace, unity and continued progress in Nigeria’s democratic development.
