Easter Without Resurrection Is Meaningless — Rev. Oyelami Emphasizes Power of Christ’s Victory
The Minister in charge of First Baptist Church, Gwagwalada, Abuja, Reverend Deji Oyelami, says Christianity would have no message of hope or victory without the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Delivering his Easter message in Abuja, Reverend Oyelami described Easter as the foundation of the Christian faith, noting that its celebration reminds believers that Jesus Christ is alive.
He explained that the significance of Easter is rooted in three major truths, including redemption through Christ’s sacrifice, victory over death, and the promise of new life for believers.
“Jesus Christ died to pay the price for humanity’s sins, and His resurrection defeated death and the grave, while Easter symbolizes spiritual rebirth, restoration, and a fresh start,” he said.
The cleric advised Christians to use the occasion of Easter to renew their faith and commitment to Jesus Christ, urging them to live as people of hope, righteousness, love, and peace wherever they find themselves.
While stressing the need for all religious groups to continue promoting the spirit of hope, unity, and peace among their members, Reverend Oyelami encouraged Nigerians to remain hopeful that Jesus Christ will intervene in the current economic and security challenges facing the country.
According to him, with the continuous prayers of the saints, Nigeria will soon take its rightful place among the comity of nations.
He also advised political leaders to always place national interest above personal interests in order to ensure economic development.
“My message to our leaders as we celebrate Easter this year is that the sacrifice of Christ is a call to selfless leadership. I challenge them to govern with integrity, compassion, and accountability, because the resurrection power speaks of a new beginning. This is the time to renew trust, restore justice, and prioritize the welfare of the people,” he emphasized.
While wishing Nigerians, especially Christians, a happy Easter, Reverend Oyelami admonished wealthy Christians to put smiles on the faces of the less privileged during and after the celebration.
