Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, on Wednesday convened an expanded State Security Council meeting involving heads of security agencies and chairmen from the 17 local government areas.

The Governor’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, disclosed this in a statement, explaining that the meeting was aimed at addressing the growing insecurity and promoting peaceful coexistence across the state.

The move follows a wave of attacks in various communities, which have reportedly claimed no fewer than 50 lives within the past week.
According to Bere, the meeting, held at the Government House in Jos, reviewed the current security situation and mapped out strategies to prevent further violence.
Speaking after the session, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Bassey Ewah, said the gathering provided an opportunity to assess recent incidents and improve coordination among security agencies.
He stated that the curfew had been adjusted to run from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with strict enforcement ordered.
Ewah warned that anyone found violating the curfew would face prosecution, adding that restrictions on the operations of commercial motorcycles and tricycles remain in place.
He also dismissed reports suggesting planned protests, maintaining that the situation in the state is under control.
“The government is not biased towards any religious group. All actions taken are in the interest of peace. As far as I know, there have been no protests or breakdown of law and order,” he said.
The police commissioner urged residents to support security efforts by complying with all directives, assuring that security agencies are working in unity.
“We are operating as one team and remain committed to ensuring peace in the state,” he added.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria in Plateau State, Hamisu Anani, said local councils are developing tailored strategies to tackle insecurity based on their unique challenges.
“Each local government will adopt measures suited to its peculiar situation. We are collaborating closely with security agencies, reviewing field reports, and strengthening partnerships to effectively address insecurity,” he said.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Governor, Ngo Josephine Piyo; the Special Adviser on Security and Commander of Operation Rainbow, General Gagji Shipi; and the Gbong Gwom Jos and Chairman of the Plateau State Council of Chiefs and Emirs, His Majesty, Da. Jacob Gyang Buba.
