Fresh Benue Attack Leaves Many Feared Dead, 30 Missing

Several people are feared dead, while about 30 others have been declared missing following a fresh attack by suspected armed herdsmen on Agadagba community in Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue State.

The attack reportedly occurred on Saturday evening after the assailants had earlier invaded nearby Ochobo community, where two people were allegedly killed. Although residents initially repelled an attempt to attack Agadagba, the attackers reportedly returned later in the day, opened fire on the community, killed several people, and forced many residents to flee into the surrounding bush.
A resident, who spoke from a hiding place, said the attackers stormed the community unexpectedly and began shooting indiscriminately. According to the source, many people were killed, while several others escaped into the bush, with about 30 persons still unaccounted for. The resident said it remains unclear whether those missing are alive or dead.
The latest attack has further heightened concerns over the deteriorating security situation in parts of Benue State, where rural communities continue to face recurring attacks, killings, and displacement.
