2027 Race: Youths Mobilize Funds for Ndume’s APC Nomination Forms
As the May 18 date set by the All Progressives Congress (APC) for its senatorial primaries approaches, youths in Borno South Senatorial District have intensified efforts to support Senator Ali Ndume’s return to the National Assembly for a fifth term.
Over the weekend, youths drawn from the nine local government areas of Southern Borno, under the leadership of their coordinator, Alhaji Babandi Shehu, held a fundraising event in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
The exercise yielded over N38.5 million.Shehu explained that the funds would be used to procure the APC Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for the former Senate Leader.
According to the party’s timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections, aspirants seeking Senate seats are required to pay N50 million for the forms.
Speaking with journalists, the youth coordinator said their decision was driven not only by Ndume’s contributions to the district but also by his commitment to truth and democratic principles.
“Ndume is not just a senator; he is a nationalist,” he said.
“At this stage of Nigeria’s political development, the country needs lawmakers like Ndume who can boldly challenge executive excesses and speak truth to power, regardless of whose interests are affected.”
He added that the collective effort to raise funds was a reflection of their confidence in Ndume’s representation and their belief that both the district and the nation still require his presence in the Senate.
Also speaking at the event, Junaid Jibril Maiva, Senior Legislative Aide to Senator Ndume, expressed appreciation to the youths for their initiative and support.
He noted that their action was likely influenced by Ndume’s track record, highlighting that the senator has sponsored 76 people-oriented bills. He also credited Ndume with key roles in the establishment of the Federal College of Education, Gwoza; the proposed Federal Medical Centre in Kwaya-Kusar; and the Federal College of Agriculture, Shani.
Maiva further listed the Nigerian Army University, Biu, and the North East Development Commission among institutions linked to Ndume’s efforts, alongside housing projects in Gwoza and Damboa aimed at providing shelter for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
He concluded that the youths’ mobilisation reflects a desire to sustain Ndume’s legislative contributions, as he seeks a fifth term in the Senate in the 2027 elections.
