Alia Celebrates Kave at 50, Urges Support for Humanitarian Cause
From Dooshima Terkura, Makurdi
Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, joined family, friends, and well-wishers of Dr. Godwin Kave at a thanksgiving Mass marking the close of activities for his 50th birthday celebration.
The Mass, held at the Catholic Youth Centre in Makurdi, drew dignitaries from across the state, as tributes poured in for the philanthropist and founder of the Kave Economic Empowerment Foundation (KEEF).
Speaking at the event, Governor Alia described Kave, his former schoolmate at King James Junior Seminary, as a visionary leader with a deep passion for development.
Reflecting on their shared past, the governor praised Kave’s leadership qualities, recalling his role as president during their school days.
“I know my president,” Alia remarked, adding, “Once a president, always a president. Kave is not just a thinker, but someone who thinks ahead and brings forth impactful ideas.”
The governor also highlighted the legacy of their alma mater, noting its contribution to producing individuals who have excelled in priesthood, public service, and other sectors. He expressed pride in being among its distinguished alumni and the second priest to serve as governor of Benue State.
He said “The Junior Seminary has produced solid, functional and successful Reverend Fathers, and I happen to be the second priest.”
Alia used the occasion to call on the public to support Kave’s humanitarian efforts by purchasing copies of his newly launched biography, proceeds of which are earmarked for KEEF’s charitable programmes.
He also pledged his personal support for the foundation saying “Let us continue to support our own. Whenever you need assistance and believe I can help, do not hesitate to reach out,” the governor added, emphasizing the importance of celebrating individuals who contribute to the state’s development.
In his remarks, Dr. Kave expressed gratitude to God for reaching the milestone age of 50, describing it as a moment for reflection and renewed commitment to service. He appreciated Governor Alia for attending the thanksgiving and urged guests to support his foundation through the purchase of his biography.
Kave, who once pursued priestly formation, explained that he chose a different path to serve humanity through humanitarian work. He also thanked his family and friends for their unwavering support.
Delivering the homily, Rev. Fr. Fidelis Akumbur emphasized the importance of service, beginning from the family, which he described as the “domestic church.” He commended Kave for living a life of impact and urged him to remain humble and committed to humanitarian service.
“At 50, you have gathered enough experience to mentor others and contribute meaningfully to community development. We are not here merely to praise him, but to encourage ourselves to live purposeful lives,” Akumbur said.
Rev. Fr. Shima Ukpanya offered prayers and blessings for Kave and the congregation.
The thanksgiving Mass was followed by a reception at Nnam Hotels in Makurdi, where guests paid glowing tributes to the celebrant. Chairperson of the occasion, Hon. Dorothy Mato, represented by Mrs. Hoyo, congratulated Kave on his golden jubilee and prayed for continued blessings as he advances his contributions to society.
