Alia’s Former Aide, Mkeenem Eyes House of Reps, Pledges Youth Empowerment, others

Former Senior Special Assistant to Governor Hyacinth Alia on Youth Mobilisation and Empowerment/State Youth leader, Moses Mkeneem has picked his expression of interest and nomination forms on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), after emerging as a consensus candidate for the seat.

Mr Mkeenem is formally entering the race to contest for the Kwande/Ushongo Federal House of Representatives seat.

He told newsmen that positioning his ambition on a track record of grassroots mobilisation and youth empowerment in Benue State.

Before venturing into the legislative contest, Mkeenem served in the Alia administration as a key youth figure, mobilizing young people across the state and shaping engagement policies targeted at productivity and social order.

During his time in office, he spearheaded several youth-focused initiatives aimed at redirecting energy from youth restiveness to youth development.

A statement made available to our correspondent highlighted some of his most notable achievements including the agro-based empowerment drive that saw the distribution of over 10,000 improved palm seedlings to young people across the state, an intervention designed to promote self-reliance and long-term economic sustainability.

It also said that he also championed broader community-based programmes that encouraged entrepreneurship, skills acquisition and civic responsibility, while promoting peace-building efforts among youths.

“His leadership was credited with fostering structured engagement through initiatives such as organised youth groups that promoted social discipline and participation in governance.

“In addition, Mkeenem was vocal on issues affecting young people, including his public stance against cybercrime and social vices, where he consistently called for collective responsibility among youths to safeguard the future of the state.

“His political relevance predates his appointment, having served as a youth mobiliser during the 2023 election cycle and contributing to campaign structures within the state. His role in bridging political divides and mobilising support blocs further strengthened his profile as a grassroots organiser.

“Mkeenem resigned from his position as Senior Special Assistant in September 2024, a move that drew serious attention across political circles in Benue. While reactions trailed his exit, he maintained that the decision was driven by personal considerations and a desire to pursue broader developmental goals.

“Since leaving office, he has continued consultations across Kwande and Ushongo, where stakeholders and community leaders have reportedly urged him to contest, citing his accessibility, youth appeal and perceived capacity to deliver effective representation.”

Speaking after picking the form, Mkeenem said while seeking a seat in the National Assembly, he is presenting himself as a bridge between the younger generation and governance, promising to leverage legislative platforms to attract development, create opportunities and amplify the voice of his constituents.
