Power Outage to Hit Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Parts of Bauchi, Yobe as TCN Shuts Down 330kV Line for Repairs

Residents and businesses across Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states, as well as parts of Bauchi and Yobe, are expected to experience a temporary power outage on Sunday as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) undertakes emergency maintenance on a major transmission line.

In a statement issued on Saturday and signed by TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah announced that its maintenance crew in the Kano Region will carry out annual maintenance work on the Mando–Kumbotso 330kV Transmission Line between 9:00 a.

m. and 4:00 p.m. on May 31, 2026.

The company said the planned outage is necessary to enable engineers repair a damaged Red Phase Conductor on Tower T187 along the transmission route.

As a result of the maintenance exercise, the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) will be unable to receive bulk electricity supply from the national grid during the period, leading to a disruption of power supply to customers within its franchise areas.

The affected areas include Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states, parts of Bauchi and Yobe states, as well as customers in Gazaoua, Niger Republic, who receive electricity through the transmission network.

TCN noted that the maintenance work is part of efforts to ensure the reliability and efficiency of the transmission infrastructure and minimise the risk of unplanned outages in the future.

The company appealed for understanding from affected consumers and apologised for the inconvenience the temporary disruption may cause.
