China Pledges Deeper Strategic Partnership with Nigeria as CPC Marks 105th Anniversary
By Iyojo Ameh
The Chinese Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening ties with Nigeria, pledging to align its new national development strategy with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to deepen economic cooperation and accelerate shared development.
Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, made the commitment on Wednesday in a statement commemorating the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
The envoy said China, under the leadership of the CPC, had transformed from an impoverished nation into the world’s second-largest economy through sustained reforms, long-term planning, and people-focused governance.
According to him, China is concluding its 14th Five-Year Plan and preparing to implement the 15th Five-Year Plan, a roadmap that will guide the country’s next phase of development and keep it on course to achieve its long-term modernization goals by 2035.
Ambassador Yu said China’s modernization model offers valuable lessons for developing countries by emphasizing independent development rather than copying foreign models.
He identified four major pillars underpinning the CPC’s governance: independence and self-reliance, people-centred development, rigorous self-reform, and continuous theoretical innovation.
On people-centred governance, the ambassador noted that China had lifted more than 700 million rural residents out of absolute poverty while providing universal compulsory education and basic medical coverage to over 1.3 billion people.
He also highlighted the CPC’s anti-corruption drive and institutional reforms, describing them as critical to maintaining political stability, public trust, and effective governance.
According to him, the adoption of Xi Jinping Thought on Party Building has further strengthened China’s pursuit of national rejuvenation while supporting initiatives aimed at global development, security, and governance reform.
Speaking on China-Nigeria relations, Ambassador Yu noted that 2026 marks 55 years of diplomatic relations between both countries since formal ties were established in 1971.
He reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s development aspirations regardless of shifts in the global political landscape.
“No matter how the international landscape evolves, the CPC and the Chinese Government have remained unwavering in their commitment to long-term friendship with Nigeria,” he said.
The ambassador disclosed that China would continue to leverage the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) to deepen governance exchanges and practical cooperation with Nigeria.
He added that Beijing intends to align its 15th Five-Year Plan with Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda to expand investment, strengthen economic collaboration, and advance the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.
Ambassador Yu expressed confidence that closer cooperation between both nations would deliver tangible benefits to their peoples while contributing to broader peace, stability, and sustainable development across Africa.
