The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Bishop Prof. Stephen Adegbite, has stressed that peace is essential for Nigeria’s development, declaring that the country cannot make meaningful progress without it.

Bishop Adegbite made the statement on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, during the 2026 NCPC Annual General Staff Retreat held at CSS Global Integrated Farms in Gora, Nasarawa State.

He reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to promoting peace, saying, “We want Nigeria to move forward, but without peace, Nigeria cannot move forward. We need peace, and we will never relent until total peace returns to Nigeria.”
He also urged Nigerians to pray for God’s intervention, adding, “Let us pray that the Lord will restore peace and tranquillity in the country.”
The NCPC Executive Secretary advised politicians to conduct themselves responsibly by adhering to the rules of engagement. He said election campaigns should be peaceful and free from character assassination.
Expressing confidence in the country’s democratic process, Bishop Adegbite said he believes the 2027 general elections will be peaceful, encouraging anyone seeking elective office to test their popularity at the ballot box.
He also cautioned religious leaders to be mindful of their words and actions, reminding them that they would one day give account before God. According to him, they should speak responsibly at all times.
Speaking on the purpose of the retreat, Bishop Adegbite explained that it was organised to prepare staff for the 2026 pilgrimage exercise. He noted that the retreat is the second edition under his leadership.
He further disclosed that the Commission has successfully airlifted about 40,000 pilgrims to the Holy Land within the last two years under his administration.
The NCPC boss expressed optimism that pilgrimage to the Holy Land would resume once relative peace returns to Israel and the Middle East. He added that the exercise would provide an opportunity for Christians to pray for lasting peace and for the peaceful conduct of the 2027 general elections.
The 2026 NCPC General Staff Retreat is themed, “I Will Fight for You and Give You Rest.”
The retreat also served as a platform for staff of the Commission to interact, strengthen teamwork, and develop strategies aimed at improving productivity and ensuring more efficient pilgrimage operations.
