The David That Disgraces!
By Dr jalarth Uche Opara
From my childhood, I have known a David who distinguished himself on the battlefield. He was the David of Scripture—the shepherd who tore apart the jaws of lions and bears to rescue his sheep.
He was the fearless warrior who stripped Goliath of his honour, brought down the giant before a watching nation, and turned the dreaded champion into a public disgrace.
That David was a symbol of courage, conviction, sacrifice, and leadership. He risked his life so that others might live. He confronted predators instead of negotiating with them. He fought giants instead of feeding them.
But today, there is another David. This David has become a troubling spectacle in the South. Carving pathways that seem to railroad the destiny of the Southeast into a bleak and uncertain future.
The David I know fought lions to save his sheep. This David appears willing to surrender the sheep for personal gratification.
The David I know stood before Goliath with a sling in his hand and faith in his heart. This David seems content to sing around the Goliaths who thirst for the blood of his own people, even leading them to the very places where the sheep hide.
The David of Scripture confronted Goliath, struck him down, stood triumphantly over the fallen giant, and inspired his people to freedom and victory.
History will always remember the difference between the David who risked everything for his people and the David who risks his people for everything.
Leadership is never measured by the applause of the powerful, but by the safety, dignity, and future of those entrusted to one’s care. This David of the Southeast is a disgrace not a grace. He is the lion that devours the sheep, not a shepherd that scares away the lion and protects the lives of the sheep. The lion of the South East that eats its destiny and the seeds of its bright future he mortgages on the altar of self gratification.
