Service to God: First Baptist Gwagwalada Ordains 2 Deacons, 2 Deaconesses

As part of efforts to further propagate the gospel of Jesus Christ within and outside the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, First Baptist Church, Gwagwalada, Abuja, has ordained two new Deacons and two Deaconesses.

The newly ordained Deacons are Prof. Samuel Olanrewaju of the University of Abuja and Dr. Tayo Olajide of the Sheda Science and Technology Complex, Abuja.
The two Deaconesses are Prof. Mrs. Comfort Olanrewaju, also of the University of Abuja, and Mrs. Bose Ibidapo of Junior Secondary School, Dupka, in Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT.
The Guest Speaker and Minister in charge of First Baptist Church, Garki, Abuja, Reverend Tom Takpatore, delivered a sermon centred on “Service” and urged the newly ordained Deacons and Deaconesses to remain faithful in their service in God’s vineyard.
Reverend Takpatore advised them not to deviate from their calling, urging them to avoid discrimination and remain connected to Jesus Christ in their service to God and humanity.
According to him, they should see their ordination as a call to serve the living God and follow the Master in service towards fulfilling the purpose of their calling.
He urged them to pray regularly, protect the peace and unity of the Church, promote reconciliation, become bridge builders, care for the people, encourage the elderly, support struggling families and support the ministry of their Pastor towards ensuring the progress of the Church.
“Above all, you must not finish wrongly,” Reverend Takpatore added.
Earlier, the Minister in charge of the Church, Reverend Deji Oyelami, expressed appreciation to their predecessors, Deaconess Deborah Amao and Deacon Victor Asade, for serving the Church faithfully and in truth.
He prayed that God would continue to bless and reward them as they continue to render their service to the work of God and humanity.
Reverend Oyelami also admonished the newly ordained Deacons and Deaconesses to remain committed and contribute their quota to the service of God and humanity towards the progress of the Church and the expansion of God’s kingdom.
Responding while taking their Code of Ethics, the newly ordained Deacons and Deaconesses pledged to discharge their responsibilities in line with the constitution of the Church and that of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, NBC.
They also promised not to betray the confidence reposed in them and solicited the support and prayers of the congregation to enable them succeed in their new responsibilities.
The highpoints of the ordination service included the presentation of Bibles and certificates to the newly ordained Deacons and Deaconesses.
The Church also appreciated Deaconess Deborah Amao and Deacon Victor Asade for their dedicated service of 20 years as Deaconess and Deacon respectively.
The appreciation was extended by the Church, departmental unions and associations, individuals and other members of the congregation in recognition of their contributions and faithful service to the Church.
