African Praise Sunday: Bishop Kawas Declares Praise a Spiritual Weapon for Victory
By Iyojo Ameh
The leader of World Harvest Ministries and proprietress of Lekced International School, Bishop Dr. Kate Kawas, has called on Christians to embrace fervent praise as a powerful spiritual weapon capable of breaking captivity and securing divine victory.
Speaking during the maiden edition of African Praise Sunday, themed “Let the High Praises of God Be in Our Mouth,” Bishop Kawas said praise is far more than singing and dancing, describing it as a divinely ordained strategy for spiritual warfare.
The colourful service, led by gospel minister Nene Olajide, was marked by vibrant worship, thanksgiving and cultural presentations representing Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
Preaching from Psalm 149:6–8, Bishop Kawas said the scripture reveals the transformative power of praise in confronting spiritual battles.
“Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand to execute upon them the judgment written. Praise ye the Lord.”
According to her, the passage demonstrates that praise is not merely an act of worship but a spiritual weapon that enables believers to overcome adversity and experience God’s intervention.
Drawing from 2 Chronicles 20:21, she recounted how King Jehoshaphat appointed singers to lead the army into battle, after which God defeated their enemies without the Israelites lifting a sword.
“Praise is the weapon of warfare,” she declared.
Bishop Kawas challenged Christians to move beyond viewing praise as entertainment, insisting that every act of worship should be intentional and faith-filled.
“We are not just dancing to be entertained; we are engaging in warfare,” she told the congregation.
She also declared prophetic prayers over the worshippers, expressing confidence that God would bring deliverance and victory.
“As we praise God today, I see every captivity being broken and God fighting every battle on your behalf,” she said.
Encouraging believers to cultivate gratitude, Bishop Kawas reminded the congregation not to take God’s blessings for granted.
“We are sitting here strong and healthy. Do you not know what God has done for you?” she asked.
The inaugural African Praise Sunday concluded with an atmosphere of celebration as worshippers participated in energetic praise sessions and cultural displays reflecting Nigeria’s rich diversity.
