2027: APM Rejects Poll, Backs Makinde for Victory
The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has rejected recent projections by political intelligence group, Politico Intelligence Group (PIG), which predicted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would secure victory in 20 states in the 2027 presidential election, while former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s Peter Obi trail behind.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, the APM described the prediction as inaccurate, insisting that President Tinubu would finish fourth with the emergence of Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, as the party’s presidential candidate.
Yusuf stated that Governor Makinde remains the strongest alternative to President Tinubu in the South-West, expressing confidence that Oyo, Ondo, Osun, Ogun, Ekiti and Lagos states would overwhelmingly support the APM candidate in 2027.
According to the party, after securing the South-West, the North-West, North-East and North-Central regions would witness strong competition among Makinde, Atiku and Obi, with the APM candidate maintaining an advantage.
The APM spokesman further noted that the South-East and South-South would also be closely contested between Makinde and Peter Obi, adding that the leadership style and achievements recorded by the Oyo State Governor over the past seven years would significantly influence voter decisions.
Describing PIG’s projections as biased and unrealistic, Yusuf argued that the group failed to reflect prevailing political realities, maintaining that President Tinubu’s electoral prospects had declined.
He also stated that ongoing controversies surrounding the ADC and NDC, as well as the political positions of Atiku and Obi, could provide additional opportunities for the APM candidate.
Yusuf claimed that, based on what he described as popular support and public sentiment, Engr. Seyi Makinde is positioned to win 25 states, while Atiku and Obi would secure 10 and nine states respectively.
The party attributed its optimism to current economic challenges, taxation concerns, hardship and insecurity, while stressing that Governor Makinde’s achievements in Oyo State, alongside the APM’s blueprint, would shape the outcome of the 2027 election.
