The newly remodelled Abuja City Gate has been officially commissioned, with its striking water fountain adding to the beauty and ambience of Nigeria’s capital city.

At the commissioning ceremony in Abuja, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, said the upgraded national monument can now proudly compare with the gateways and public monuments of other major capital cities around the world.

Senator Tinubu described the transformed City Gate as a symbol of Nigeria’s unity, diversity and collective aspirations. She noted that Abuja, as the nation’s administrative and diplomatic capital where all 36 states converge, deserves a gateway that reflects the country’s pride, identity and aspirations.
She explained that the project, executed by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), provides every visitor arriving in Abuja with a positive first impression of the nation’s capital.
According to her, the remodelled City Gate, with its beautiful water fountain representing the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, sends a clear message of unity, diversity and shared aspirations to Nigerians and visitors arriving from the airport.
The First Lady commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr Nyesom Wike, for his commitment to improving the aesthetics and ambience of Abuja.
She noted that the commissioning was significant as it coincided with the third anniversary of the Tinubu administration and the 50th anniversary of the creation of the Federal Capital Territory.
Senator Tinubu praised Wike’s performance, saying that when vision is matched with action, tangible results are achieved. She described the minister as a committed driver of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Speaking at the event, the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, revealed that the project originated from a directive by the First Lady, who pointed out that Abuja’s gateway did not reflect the status of Nigeria’s capital.
He said that following several reminders from Senator Tinubu, he instructed the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) to prepare a befitting redesign, while Julius Berger was engaged to execute the project.
Wike said the transformation demonstrates what can be achieved with determination, adding that the remodelled monument and its water fountain now stand as a world-class landmark capable of inspiring pride among Nigerians and visitors.
Also speaking, the Minister of State for the FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, described the project as a strong symbol of the Renewed Hope transformation taking place across the Federal Capital Territory.
She commended Senator Oluremi Tinubu for her compassionate leadership and unwavering support for initiatives that improve the wellbeing of Nigerians, adding that her presence brought dignity and national significance to the commissioning.
According to her, the remodelled Abuja City Gate is a visible reflection of urban renewal, infrastructure development and national pride in the Federal Capital Territory.
