ADC Calls for Probe After Members Attacked in Ejule
The Kogi State Chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly condemned what it described as a barbaric and unprovoked attack by suspected political thugs on its members in Ejule, Ofu Local Government Area.
In a statement issued by the state chairman of the party, Hon. Tom Zakari, in Lokoja, he said ADC members were engaged in a peaceful and lawful interaction with residents of Ejule when they were allegedly attacked and harassed, while their properties were destroyed.
According to him, some of the party members sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment.
He described the incident as not only an attack on the ADC but also an attack on democracy, freedom of association and the peace-loving people of Kogi State.
Zakari said the ADC believes in issue-based politics and not violence.
He therefore called on the following authorities to take action:
The Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, and the Director of the DSS to immediately investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators and their sponsors to book.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner and other security agencies to take note of what he described as growing intimidation against opposition parties in Kogi East.
ADC members across the state to remain calm and law-abiding and not resort to reprisal, stressing that the party stands for peace.
He further said the party would not be intimidated, adding that no amount of thuggery would stop the resolve of Kogites who have chosen the ADC as the vehicle to rescue the state and nation.
He thanked the people of Ejule for their courage and support.
