ADC National Chairman, Sen. David Mark, Mourns Founding Editor of Newswatch Magazine, Yakubu Mohammed
The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former President of the Senate, Senator David Mark, has expressed profound grief over the death of Mr. Yakubu Mohammed, the founding Editor of Newswatch magazine.
In a condolence message, Senator Mark described the late Yakubu Mohammed as an outstanding journalist, a trailblazing media practitioner and a fearless voice whose contributions greatly advanced investigative journalism in Nigeria.
He said the late editor was part of a unique generation of journalists whose unwavering commitment to truth, balance and professionalism helped mould contemporary Nigerian journalism and reinforced the country’s democratic ethos.
“Yakubu Mohammed was more than a journalist; he was an institution. As the founding Editor of Newswatch magazine, he played a landmark role in redefining investigative journalism and establishing enduring standards for the media profession in Nigeria. His courage, integrity and devotion to the truth will continue to serve as a benchmark for generations,” Senator Mark stated.
He noted that Nigeria has lost a towering media figure whose writings were driven by patriotism and a strong sense of duty to society. Lamenting that the death occurred just weeks after the passing of another Newswatch icon, Dan Agbese, the former Senate President said Yakubu Mohammed’s demise represents yet another heavy loss to the Fourth Estate of the Realm.
Senator Mark conveyed his sincere condolences to the Mohammed family, the management and staff of Newswatch magazine, the Nigerian media fraternity and all those impacted by the life and work of the late journalist.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of Yakubu Mohammed’s soul and asked God to grant his family and loved ones the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
“May his enduring legacy of fearless journalism, professionalism and dedicated service to the nation continue to inspire the media and the younger generation,” he added.
