Adebayo: Corruption Still Nigeria’s Biggest Enemy

The 2027 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo, has described corruption as the greatest impediment to Nigeria’s development, saying the country’s fight against insecurity and poverty cannot succeed without transparency, accountability and integrity in governance.

Adebayo made the remarks while addressing participants at the Arewa Awareness Summit on Unity Against Insecurity held in Kaduna State. He stressed that effective leadership and responsible governance remain critical to overcoming Nigeria’s security and socio-economic challenges.
According to him, corruption continues to undermine national progress, insisting that no policy or institutional reform can deliver meaningful results unless it is built on the principles of transparency, accountability and integrity in public service.
He noted that Northern Nigeria has abundant human and natural resources capable of transforming the region, adding that its large population should be viewed as a strategic asset for economic growth and national development when properly managed.
“The North has the people, the land and the resources to prosper. What is needed is leadership that can harness these enormous potentials for the benefit of the people,” he said.
Adebayo urged leaders and stakeholders to shift from identifying the causes of insecurity to implementing practical and lasting solutions.
“We have analysed the problems long enough. It is now time to move from diagnosis to action by implementing practical and sustainable solutions,” he stated.
He also advocated greater investment in agriculture, describing the sector as the fastest route to job creation, food security and wealth generation across Northern Nigeria.
“Agriculture remains the quickest path to creating jobs, ensuring food security and building wealth across Northern Nigeria,” he added.
On education, Adebayo expressed concern over the increasing number of out-of-school children in the region, calling for sustained investment in quality education to strengthen national development.
“We cannot build a prosperous nation while millions of children remain out of school. Education is the foundation of security, productivity and national development,” he said.
The SDP presidential candidate further urged Nigerians to use the democratic process to elect leaders who are competent, accountable and compassionate.
“Democracy gives citizens the opportunity to choose leaders who understand their needs. We must elect people of competence, compassion and integrity,” he said.
He maintained that the security and development challenges confronting Northern Nigeria are national issues that require collective action, while encouraging Nigerians to remain hopeful.
“Nigeria’s challenges are not beyond us. With unity, visionary leadership and active citizen participation, we can build a safer, more prosperous nation,” Adebayo said.
The Arewa Awareness Summit brought together traditional rulers, academics, political leaders, professionals and other stakeholders to deliberate on strategies for promoting unity and tackling insecurity across Northern Nigeria.
