Akpabio Expresses Confidence That Banditry Will Be Crushed in the New Year
The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has called on Nigerians to strive for a more peaceful and just nation in 2026, expressing optimism that banditry will be overcome in the new year and beyond.
He urged citizens to put aside their differences, embrace peace, and promote unity within their families, states, and across the country, stressing that national progress can only be achieved in an atmosphere of peace.
Senator Akpabio made the appeal during a prayer and fasting service held in honour of the Akpabio family at the Methodist Church Nigeria, Cathedral of Unity, Ukana Ikot Ntuen, in Essien Udim Local Government Area.
In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media/Communication, Anietie Ekong, the Senate President was quoted as saying, “I wish all Nigerians a very prosperous and peaceful new year. I want to assure Nigerians that the new year will bring renewed peace to our country.”
Speaking further, Akpabio reflected on the significance of the birth of Jesus Christ, saying: “For God so loved the world that He sent His only begotten Son to be born as a man to redeem mankind. By the virtue of the birth of Jesus Christ, Nigerians will be redeemed from banditry and insurgency in the new year and beyond.”
He called on Nigerians, regardless of their political affiliations, to support the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the fight against banditry and insurgency, noting that with renewed collaboration with international partners, insecurity would be defeated.
The Senate President also underscored the importance of family as a cornerstone for peace and development, describing unity as the bedrock of collective achievement.
In her remarks, the wife of the Senate President, Her Excellency Mrs. Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, urged family members to support one another selflessly, set aside personal differences, and live together in love and harmony.
Similarly, the Head of the Greater Akpabio Family, Chief Ekan Akpabio, appealed to family members to continue supporting Senator Akpabio as a worthy ambassador of the family, Essien Udim Local Government Area, and Akwa Ibom State at large.
He further advised family members holding political offices to remain connected to their roots and give priority to the welfare of their relatives.
The annual prayer and fasting service, observed every December 26, serves as an occasion for the Akpabio family to thank God for His guidance and protection throughout the year, while also offering prayers for peace and unity in Nigeria.
