The Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) has commenced its 2026 Budget Retreat in Kubwa, marking the formal start of preparations for the next fiscal year.
This is made known in a press release signed by Mr. Kingsley Madaki, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs to the Executive Chairman, AMAC Hon.

Christopher Zakka Maikalangu on Thursday in Abuja.

Declaring the retreat open, the Executive Chairman of AMAC, Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, unveiled the theme for the 2026 fiscal plan: “Budget of Continuity, Renewed Hope and Consolidation.” He described the retreat as a critical step in fulfilling his administration’s commitments to the electorate.

“This is very crucial to us because it marks another milestone towards continuing our journey to fulfill the promises we made to the electorate,” Hon. Maikalangu stated in his welcome remarks.

A major highlight of the opening session was the Chairman’s directive on staff motivation. Hon. Maikalangu ordered the immediate commencement of a new staff reward system, beginning with an awards scheme that features meaningful gifts to promote excellence in service delivery.

He commended the dedication of exceptional staff, citing Mr. Henry Yakwo as a shining example of commitment and professionalism worthy of recognition.

“To truly consolidate on our gains, we must recognize the effort behind the results,” he said.
“I have directed that a staff motivation initiative, beginning with an award and meaningful gift, should commence immediately. We must celebrate our dedicated staff, and individuals like Mr. Henry serve as a brilliant example of the commitment we seek to reward.”

Hon. Maikalangu expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved under the 2025 budget, noting several breakthroughs that have driven aggressive urbanization and infrastructural development across the Council’s 12 political wards.

Key achievements highlighted include: Construction and rehabilitation of community roads across AMAC’s wards. Improved social amenities, including solar-powered boreholes for potable water, rural electrification with 500KVA transformers, and installation of solar streetlights. Women and youth empowerment programmes, alongside the distribution of farm implements and fertilizers to rural farmers.

The Chairman stressed that the 2026 fiscal year must consolidate these gains and align with national priorities.
“Our work must align with the dictates of the Renewed Hope agenda of the President by prioritizing good governance, greater urbanization, and strategic developments that reduce the ever-explosive rural-urban dwelling gap,” he declared.

Hon. Maikalangu urged all participants to commit to producing a focused, timely, and dependable budget document that translates the aspirations of AMAC residents into actionable plans.

At the close of the retreat, he directed all departmental heads to liaise with the Head of Budget for final harmonization and verification before forwarding the 2026 budget proposal to the Legislative Chamber for approval. This, he said, is necessary to ensure fiscal discipline and adherence to established guidelines before legislative scrutiny begins.

The retreat is expected to culminate in a comprehensive and implementable budget designed to strengthen service delivery and drive sustainable development across the Abuja Municipal Area Council.
