APM Raises Alarm Over Kidnapping, Insecurity, Says Makinde Has Solution
The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has condemned what it described as attempts by the Tinubu administration to downplay the worsening insecurity in the country, saying Nigeria now ranks as the fourth most insecure country in the world under President Bola Tinubu, according to the Global Terrorism Index (GTI) 2026.
The party, in a statement issued over the weekend by its National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, berated the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.), for what it described as a dangerous distortion of reality after he claimed that the nation’s security situation had improved under President Tinubu.
The APM said the situation on the ground and reports by credible international organisations showed that Nigeria’s insecurity rating had instead climbed two places from sixth position in the 2025 index.
The APM said it was deeply disappointing that a minister of the Federal Republic could make such claims on national television at a time when millions of Nigerians were being killed, kidnapped, displaced and terrorised across various parts of the country.
According to the party, the minister’s comments further demonstrated what it described as the Tinubu administration’s insensitivity to the plight of Nigerians facing daily killings, maiming, rape, abductions for ransom and incarceration by bandits under dehumanising conditions.
The party further alleged that the comments showed that the Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC) administration could not feel the pain and anguish of millions of Nigerian families whose lives had been permanently ruined during the last three years of Tinubu’s presidency. It claimed that more than 600,000 Nigerians had been killed, while no fewer than 2.2 million others, including women and children, had been abducted.
The APM also cited the abduction of about 600 Nigerians, mostly women, children and elderly persons, from Dekera, Gidan-Zana and Sabon Gida villages in Niger State the previous week, saying the victims were still in captivity.
The party further referenced data released by SBM Intelligence, which it said showed that kidnapping for ransom had grown into a highly monetised industry under President Tinubu, with more than N7.78 billion reportedly paid as ransom between July 2025 and June 2026.
The APM said it was disturbed that the administration was either dangerously disconnected from reality or deliberately attempting to manipulate public perception by denying the actual security situation in the country.
It described as more disheartening the alleged tendency of the Tinubu administration to dismiss abduction, which the party described as an act of terrorism, as a “family affair,” even as families continued to suffer across the country.
The party challenged President Tinubu, the Minister of Defence and other senior officials of the administration to travel by road without armed security details if the country’s security situation had truly improved as claimed.
The APM maintained that insecurity was festering under President Tinubu because, according to the party, he lacked the capacity to develop and implement a blueprint capable of tackling and containing the challenge. It warned that Nigeria could not survive another four years under what it described as a “hopeless and incompetent administration.”
The party, however, urged Nigerians not to despair but to remain steadfast in their resolve to vote for its presidential candidate, Engr. Seyi Makinde, whom it described as the people’s candidate and someone prepared with a blueprint to address insecurity and other challenges it attributed to the Tinubu-led administration, whose tenure ends on May 29, 2027.
