Armed Robbers Invade Radio Nigeria Station in Kogi, Cart Away Equipment Worth Millions

Suspected armed robbers have attacked Radio Nigeria’s Prime 101.5FM station located in Jimgbe, Kogi State, stealing vital broadcasting equipment valued in millions of naira.

The robbery occurred in the early hours of Saturday and reportedly lasted for over three hours without any intervention from security agencies.

Speaking with journalists, the General Manager of the station, Momoh-Jimoh Adeiza, confirmed the attack, describing it as a serious blow to their operations.

“We woke up this morning to discover that our station was attacked overnight. Armed robbers made away with crucial transmission equipment, forcing us off air. They tied up our security personnel on duty and had a free hand to carry out the theft,” Adeiza stated.

He appealed to security agencies to intensify efforts to track down the perpetrators and called on relevant authorities to assist the station in restoring its operations.

The security guard on duty, Daniel Haruna, recounted his experience, saying the attackers—armed with guns and cutlasses—stormed the station around 1:00 a.m.

“They were over ten in number. As soon as they saw me, they shone a torch in my face, tied me to a tree, and blindfolded me. I couldn’t call for help. They took copper feeder lines, 22 modules, armoured cables, generator batteries, and other equipment,” Haruna narrated.

Reacting to the development, the Kogi State Government condemned the attack. In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, the government assured the public that it would collaborate with security agencies to investigate the incident and bring the culprits to justice.

“We will support the management of Prime FM in assessing the damage and gathering intelligence that could lead to arrests. The state government remains committed to safeguarding all federal facilities and will ensure such incidents do not become a recurring problem,” Fanwo said.

He also pledged the government’s readiness to support the station during this challenging period and urged all federal agencies in the state to remain vigilant and engage with state authorities when security support is needed.
