Bauchi Considers JUNCAO Grass Technology to Tackle Desertification, Boost Livestock, Create Jobs
By Iyojo Ameh
The Bauchi State Government is considering the adoption of JUNCAO Grass and Technology as a strategic intervention to combat desertification, strengthen livestock feed security, revive the Bauchi Meat Company, create jobs, and reduce poverty across the state.
This followed a high-level meeting with the Honourable Commissioner for Livestock Development, who represented the Governor of Bauchi State, during which an Executive Policy Brief was formally submitted on the proposed adoption of the JUNCAO Technology.
The policy brief outlined how the JUNCAO Grass innovation can serve as a climate-smart, integrated solution to some of the state’s most pressing environmental and economic challenges.
Key focus areas include halting land degradation caused by desertification, ensuring year-round availability of quality livestock feed, revitalising the long-dormant Bauchi Meat Company, and expanding employment opportunities, particularly for youths and women.
According to the presentation, the JUNCAO Technology has the capacity to significantly strengthen the livestock sector by providing high-yield, nutrient-rich grass suitable for animal feed, even in arid and semi-arid conditions.
The technology is also designed to restore degraded land, improve soil fertility, and enhance overall agricultural productivity.
The proposal further emphasised the role of JUNCAO in empowering youths and women through sustainable agribusiness opportunities, positioning the technology as a tool not only for agricultural transformation but also for social inclusion and poverty eradication.
The Commissioner, who received the policy brief on behalf of the Governor, acknowledged the importance of innovative and climate-smart solutions in addressing Bauchi State’s environmental and economic challenges.
He noted that the state government remains committed to exploring practical interventions that will drive sustainable development, enhance food and feed security, and stimulate job creation.
Stakeholders at the meeting expressed optimism that, if adopted, the JUNCAO Technology could mark a turning point for Bauchi’s livestock industry and contribute significantly to the state’s economic diversification efforts.
The proposal is expected to be reviewed by relevant ministries and agencies as part of the state government’s broader strategy to build a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable agricultural economy.
