Bauchi Finance Commissioner, Three Others Refused Bail Over Terrorism Financing Allegations
A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has declined to grant bail to the Bauchi State Commissioner for Finance, Yakubu Adamu, alongside three other defendants, in connection with terrorism financing charges instituted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The decision was delivered despite the fact that Justice Emeka Nwite had, on Friday last week, approved Adamu’s bail in a separate money-laundering case. In that earlier matter, the court admitted him to bail in the sum of ₦500 million, with two sureties in like amount, over allegations involving about ₦4.6 billion.
However, the court ruled that the bail earlier granted in the money-laundering case would not apply to the terrorism financing charges, which are being handled as a distinct and independent prosecution.
Consequently, Adamu and the other accused persons will remain in custody pending the conclusion of the trial on the terrorism financing charges.
