Bayelsa Queens Set for 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League Quest via WAFU B Qualifiers

Bayelsa Queens, reigning champions of the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL), are set to begin their quest for a second appearance at the CAF Women’s Champions League through the 2025 WAFU B zonal qualifiers, scheduled to hold in Ivory Coast from August 9 to 24.
The West Africa Football Union Zone B (WAFU B) confirmed the dates and venue of the regional qualifying tournament for the fifth edition of the continental championship, according to a statement released by the Ghana Football Association.
“The West Africa Football Union Zone B has officially announced the date and venue for the 2025 WAFU B Women’s Champions League qualifying tournament. According to a notice from the WAFU B Secretariat, the tournament will be held in Ivory Coast from Saturday, August 9 to Sunday, August 24, 2025,” the statement read.
Bayelsa Queens, also known as the Prosperity Girls, will become the first Nigerian club to appear twice at the WAFU B qualifiers. Their debut came in 2022, when they lifted the regional title after defeating Burkina Faso’s US Forces Armées 3–1 in the final.
They went on to achieve a historic third-place finish at the CAF Women’s Champions League finals in Morocco—Nigeria’s best result in the competition to date.
The Yenagoa-based side booked their ticket to this year’s WAFU B qualifiers by emerging champions of the 2024–25 NWFL Premiership Super Six Playoffs. Led by head coach Whyte Ogbonda, they put up a dominant display to reclaim the national title.
The WAFU B qualifiers will determine the region’s sole representative at the 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League final tournament. Only the winner of the zonal event will progress to the continental stage.
Meanwhile, Edo Queens are the defending WAFU B champions. They secured the title in 2024 with a commanding 3–0 win over Benin Republic’s Ainonvi FC, also in Ivory Coast. They later finished fourth at the CAF finals in Morocco.
Now in its fifth edition, the WAFU B Women’s Champions League tournament continues to serve as a vital platform for West African clubs aiming to secure a spot at the CAF Women’s Champions League.
