BREAKING: Court to Deliver Ruling on Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial After Five Years

The Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed November 20 for the ruling in the trial of the embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, who has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) for five years.

Justice James Omotosho, who presided over the case, announced the date on Friday after Kanu failed to take advantage of the opportunity provided to him to defend himself against the terrorism-related charges filed by the Federal Government.

The judge noted that Kanu had been given six days to present his defence but did not do so, adding that the IPOB leader could not claim he was denied his constitutional right to a fair hearing.

Before the scheduled defence period, Kanu had dismissed all his legal representatives and opted to represent himself in court. He also challenged the jurisdiction of the court to try him, arguing that the terrorism charges were based on a repealed law and therefore lacked legal validity.
