President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved new appointments for the National Examination Council (NECO), the National Board of Technical Education (NBTE), the Federal Polytechnic in N’yak Shendam, Plateau State, and the National Library of Nigeria, all under the Federal Ministry of Education.

The President appointed Prof.
Modupe Adeola Adelabu as Chairman of the Governing Board of NECO, while retaining the current Registrar, Professor Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi.
He also named Engr. Dr. Bongfa Binfa as Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam, Plateau State, and renewed the tenure of Prof. Chinwe Veronica Anunobi as Director/Chief Executive of the National Library of Nigeria.
For the National Board of Technical Education (NBTE), President Tinubu appointed Professor Babatunde Salako as Chairman. Earlier, on April 10, the President reappointed the incumbent Executive Secretary, Prof. Idris M. Bugaje, for a second and final term of five years.
Professor Adelabu, now chairing NECO, is a retired Professor of Educational Administration who rose to full professorship at Obafemi Awolowo University. She previously served as Deputy Governor of Ekiti State between 2013 and 2014 and was Chairman of NBTE from 2018 to 2021.
Professor Salako, the new NBTE Chairman, is a renowned researcher with extensive experience in higher education, institutional governance, and policy leadership. He served as Director General of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) from 2016 to 2024, during which the institute recorded notable improvements in research governance, infrastructure, and international collaboration.
Engr. Dr. Bongfa Binfa, who hails from Plateau State, succeeds Dr. Mukaila Zakari Ya’u, the pioneer Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam, whose tenure ended on March 16, 2026.
The President approved Dr. Binfa’s appointment for a single five-year term following a selection process that included a public advertisement in national dailies in September 2025. He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and previously served as Deputy Rector (Academic) at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny, as well as a lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic, Idah.
President Tinubu also approved the renewal of Prof. Chinwe Veronica Anunobi’s tenure as Chief Executive Officer of the National Library of Nigeria for a final five-year term. She was first appointed on September 2, 2021.
Since assuming office, Prof. Anunobi has driven several reforms aimed at transforming the National Library into a technology-driven institution. These include the development of the National Repository of Nigeria, the Newspaper and Magazine Locator, the Index and Abstract to Nigerian Newspapers, and the National Virtual Library of Nigeria.
She has also played a key role in advancing the completion of the National Library Headquarters project and initiating the migration of heritage collections from 34 state branches to the new headquarters in Abuja.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the President’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, the renewal of her tenure is expected to ensure continuity in ongoing reforms, completion of the headquarters project, and execution of the institution’s 2025–2030 Strategic Plan.
