Senate urges probe into deadly Borno attacks, warns of threat to national security
The Nigerian Senate has voiced concern over the resurgence of Boko Haram attacks targeting military formations in Borno State.
The motion, sponsored by Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno and backed by other lawmakers during Wednesday’s plenary, drew attention to the killing of several military personnel, including senior officers.
Lawmakers observed that the recurring attacks on Monguno and Benisheikh pose serious threats to security while also disrupting economic and humanitarian activities in the affected areas.
While commending the efforts of the Armed Forces, the Senate warned that the situation could undermine national security and hinder the resettlement of displaced persons.
A minute of silence was held in honour of the victims, and the service chiefs were urged to carry out a thorough investigation into the incidents.
