Catholic Priest Shot in Imo, Now Receiving Treatment in Hospital
A Catholic priest serving at St. Kelvin’s Parish, Ogbaku, in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State, has been shot by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers and is currently battling for his life in a hospital.
The incident occurred on Christmas Day when the priest, who is an assistant parish priest at the church, was about to enter the parish gate at about 8:00 a.
One of the bullets reportedly struck the priest on his right arm. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is responding to treatment.
“It happened this morning. He was trying to enter the gate when, suddenly, a bullet came from nowhere and hit him. No one saw the attackers; it appeared like a stray bullet. Thank God he did not lose his life. He has been taken to the hospital,” the source said.
Confirming the incident, the Catholic Archbishop of Owerri, His Grace, Lucius Ugorji, stated that the attack indeed took place but noted that the identity of those responsible is still uncertain.
