Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Hosts Christmas Carol, Urges Nigerians to Embrace Peace
The Senior Pastor of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church, Daki-Biyu District, Kubwa, Abuja, Pastor Alex Ogundipe, has appealed to Nigerians to uphold peace as a foundation for national development.
Ogundipe made the appeal at the church’s 2025 Carol Service of Nine Lessons, held on Sunday in Abuja with the theme, “Great Mercy.”
He noted that no other birth in history had been celebrated in the unique manner of Jesus Christ, stressing that this distinction affirms Christ as the true foundation of the Christian faith.
Commenting on the 2026 budget recently presented by President Bola Tinubu, Ogundipe observed that defence and security received the highest allocation, emphasising that peace was essential for meaningful national growth.
“Looking at the budget, it is clear that the government is committing the largest share of resources to security,” he said.
“The funds being used to tackle insecurity could have been channelled into development.
“My message to everyone is that we must embrace peace so that more resources can be directed toward development.
“That is when the dividends of governance can truly be felt. The more we spend on security, the less we have for development, happiness and the provision of basic necessities,” he added.
Reflecting on the carol theme, Ogundipe said that no matter how challenging the world might appear, genuine hope could only be found in Christ.
“The world has always had its challenges, but to experience joy and peace, one must know God. And you cannot truly know God without Jesus Christ. That is what we are celebrating.
“Christ represents the fulfilment of God’s promise to humanity, and we are encouraging everyone to accept Him,” he said.
Earlier, the Chairman of the 2025 Carol Committee, Mrs Omolara Oyinbo, explained that the theme “Great Mercy” was chosen to remind worshippers of the sacrifice Jesus Christ made for mankind.
“God’s mercy endures forever. What we received through the sacrifice of Jesus is something we did not deserve, but through God’s mercy, He gave us His Son,” she said.
Oyinbo also urged Christians to model their lives after the humility, kindness and forgiving nature exemplified by Jesus Christ.
In her remarks, a church member, Mrs Funto Babarinde, said the carol service offered an opportunity to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and reflect on its deeper meaning.
“The Nine Lessons recount the birth, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, reminding us of the great price paid for our salvation,” she said.
The carol service featured hymns, worship songs and prayers offered for peace and progress in Nigeria.
