China Raises Ebola Response Support to $4.5 Million with Fresh $2.5 Million Donation

China has increased its financial support for Africa’s fight against the ongoing Bundibugyo Ebola Virus Disease outbreak by providing an additional $2.

The latest funding was formally presented by China’s Ambassador to the African Union, Jiang Feng, during a handover ceremony attended by Africa CDC Director-General, Dr.

Announcing the development, Dr. Kaseya described the contribution as a significant demonstration of China’s solidarity with Africa as health authorities intensify efforts to contain the Ebola outbreak affecting the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Uganda.

He noted that the fresh funding would strengthen frontline response operations, enhance surveillance, protect healthcare workers and vulnerable communities, and accelerate measures aimed at bringing the outbreak under control.

The new donation follows an earlier $2 million contribution by China, underscoring Beijing’s continued support for Africa’s public health emergency response.

Expressing appreciation, Dr. Kaseya thanked Chinese President Xi Jinping, the Chinese government and its people for their continued partnership with Africa during the health crisis.

The contribution comes amid growing international efforts to curb the outbreak. Africa CDC has secured nearly $499 million in pledges and funding commitments from global partners, while the World Health Organization has warned that additional resources are urgently needed to sustain the response as the outbreak continues to spread in parts of eastern DRC.
