The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mallam Shehu Mohammed, has directed commanding officers across the country to deepen their collaboration with state governments and key stakeholders to ensure safer roads nationwide during the Yuletide season.

Speaking at the opening of the Fourth Quarter Strategic Session with Zonal and Sector Commanders from the 36 states and the FCT in Abuja, the Corps Marshal said the renewed cooperation has become necessary due to the expected surge in vehicular movement typically associated with Christmas and New Year festivities.

He noted that many motorists become increasingly reckless during the season, engaging in dangerous practices such as overloading passengers and goods, excessive speeding, and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Mallam Mohammed stressed the importance of intensified awareness campaigns and advocacy by commanding officers, saying these efforts are crucial to reducing road crashes and meeting the Corps’ operational expectations.

He further charged officers to engage extensively with all relevant stakeholders—including Special Marshals, civil society groups, faith-based organizations, and educational institutions—in line with the session’s theme: “Mainstreaming Road Safety into National Development: The Role of Government at All Levels.”

Addressing the hazardous trend of scooping fuel from fallen tankers, the Corps Marshal warned the public to steer clear of such acts, revealing that about 200 people lost their lives in 2025 due to tanker-related incidents linked to attempts to collect spilled fuel.

On the proposed Electronic Passenger Manifest, he explained that the initiative will provide accurate data on passengers and vehicles traveling on interstate routes.

He urged officers and men of the Corps to remain dedicated, noting that the FRSC Amendment Bill currently awaiting presidential assent is part of efforts to strengthen the institutional framework guiding road management nationwide.

With collective commitment, he assured, the FRSC will continue to work towards achieving safer roads to enhance socio-economic activities across the country.

Outstanding commands—including Lagos and the FCT—were honored with awards for exceptional performance.
