Cleric Applauds Orji Kalu’s Family for Christmas Support to 9,500 Abia Households
A Baptist cleric, Rev. Samson Okoro Elekwa, has praised the family of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu for what he described as a remarkable show of compassion and humanitarian service during the Christmas season.
Rev. Elekwa said the Kalu family, in collaboration with the senator’s brothers, Chief Nnanna Kalu and Mascot Uzor Kalu, extended support to more than 9,500 families across the 17 local government areas of Abia State, with each beneficiary receiving a cash gift of N25,000 as part of the 2025 Christmas celebrations.
According to the cleric, the intervention did not come as a surprise to many residents of the state, given the family’s history of generosity. However, he noted that the scale of the outreach prompted him to personally confirm the report.
He explained that upon hearing about the exercise, he contacted the Chairman of the Abia State chapter of the OUK Movement, Hon. Sunday Ojisi (Abacha), who verified that the distribution indeed took place.
Describing the gesture as an uncommon expression of genuine love, Rev. Elekwa said the action of the Kalu family reflects the fundamental principles of Christianity. “This is the spirit of love. Christ preached love while on earth, and this family has demonstrated that love in very practical terms,” he said.
The cleric added that Senator Kalu and his brothers have consistently shown generosity and empathy, especially at a time when many families are facing economic challenges. He called on other well-meaning Nigerians to emulate the gesture by reaching out to the less privileged in their communities.
Beyond the Christmas outreach, Senator Kalu has continued to receive recognition for his sustained philanthropic activities across Abia North and other parts of the state.
Over the years, he has supported the education sector through scholarship schemes, construction of classrooms, and the donation of educational materials to schools.
He has also been active in healthcare delivery by facilitating medical outreaches, donating hospital equipment, and assisting patients in need of urgent medical attention. Observers say these interventions have helped to complement government efforts, particularly in rural and underserved areas.
In addition, the senator has been credited with several empowerment initiatives targeting youths and women, including skills acquisition programmes, financial support for small-scale businesses, and the execution of community infrastructure projects such as road rehabilitation and water supply schemes.
Rev. Elekwa concluded by offering prayers for divine guidance and strength for the Kalu family, stressing that acts of kindness and selfless service remain the true test of leadership. He noted that such gestures not only provide relief to the people but also foster unity, peace, and a sense of shared responsibility in society.
